Paper decorations are beginning to gain ground in the media lately. People are starting to ditch the overly expensive decorations and going for cheaper and easy-to-make ones. One good thing about paper decorations is that they won’t affect your pocket at all, and they’re just as beautiful as any other form of decoration you can think about.
In this article, I will show you how to make beautiful paper snowflake Christmas tree decorations. You can choose to place them on your Christmas tree, on your walls both in the office and at home, or on your home table.
How to Make Paper Snowflakes
Follow the steps below to make your own paper snowflakes.
Make a triangle from a square paper by folding it diagonally. Ensure that the paper is square before you begin to fold. To make it a perfect square, you can measure the sides with a ruler or fold the paper from one of the tips and make sure that it is parallel to the adjacent edge of the paper. Cut out the excess paper, and what you’ll have is a perfect square.
While still maintaining the first folding, fold the two pointed edges again till they meet. Make sure that the edges are perfectly parallel to each other.
For the third time, you will have to fold the triangle again, but this time, it will not form another triangle; it will form the shape of a rocket. Your paper should be getting thicker by now, which is why you must ensure that you start the process with light paper. Thicker paper becomes difficult or impossible to fold as you go further.
After the previous folding, you’ll notice that you now have excesses on both sides of the rocket shape paper. Cut those excesses off the piece, so you have a regular triangle again. Be careful while doing this, because a wrong cut into the other parts of the paper could ruin the entire process, and you’ll have to start over again with another paper.
This step is where all the work is because here’s where you begin to design your paper snowflake Christmas decoration. Pick a pair of sharp scissors and cut through the folded paper from the edges to the center. Cut different shapes; some straight, some zigzag, and some wavy or curved. You’ll see the magic when you spread out the paper.
Unfold your paper now, and what you’ll have is a beautifully designed snowflake. When you spread out the paper, you must ensure that you’re extremely careful to avoid tearing up the design. If you used a very light paper, the risk of getting it torn is higher. Be as cautious as possible, and the result will thrill you.
You can either hang the finished product on your Christmas tree with a fine ribbon or on your windows to make them dangle freely and beautifully.
