Karate is a fantastic type of self defense. This martial art is taught in some schools these days. However, knowing how to use some accessories properly could be an added advantage. You don’t want to come off looking like a rookie every time you’re trying to get dressed. So, follow me through this article for a detailed guide to do justice to it. Keep in mind, there are different orders and colors of karate belts, but you tie them in pretty much the same way.

How to Tie Your Karate Belt Step by Step

1. Fold the belt in half from the middle.

This is the most important thing to do when you’re tying your karate belt. Failure to do this could result in having one side of the belt longer than the other and uneven.

2. Place the middle of the belt on your belly.

If you have done the first step correctly, you should see a marking in the middle of the belt. Place that line directly on your navel area.

3. Wrap the ends from back to front.

The knot of your belt has to stay in front, so you have to ensure that you fold it firmly to the back and bring the two ends back to the front.

4. Cross one over the other.

It doesn’t matter which one you’re crossing. Left-handed people would usually cross with their left hand while right-handed people do it with the right. The most important thing is to ensure that the crossing is firm and is done over your belly.

5. Tuck the top end under the other end.

To tie it up and start up a knot, you’ll need to tuck the top end into all the layers of the belt. If you notice that the ends are uneven, you don’t have to restart the process; just slide the entire belt around your waist towards the shorter end. Do this till you’re sure that the belt is tight enough before you do the next step.

6. Fold the bottom end under the top end.

The same way you did step 5, but this time, you’ll be completing the knot. If you do this one successfully, you’ll have a correctly tied karate belt. Don’t forget to make it firm enough to avoid falling off while you’re in action. Also, don’t make it too tight to allow you to have some breathing space (literally).
